Information we collect
We collect what protecting you requires: your name, phone number or email, and selected sign-in-provider identifier when you create an account; route searches and precise location during protection sessions and SOS alerts (updated roughly every 30 seconds while a session is active); safety-check answers, including substance-use or impairment responses; audio recorded during an SOS you trigger; incident reports, profile photos, safety records, and evidence you attach; the friends and protectors you connect with; AI chat text and live voice audio when you choose those features; push notification tokens; optional survey responses and device details; and basic technical logs. On this website, we collect your email address when you join the waitlist, together with basic network, browser, device, and interaction signals used to prevent automated abuse.
How we use it
We use this information to run your protection sessions, alert the protectors you chose, capture and store the SOS evidence you may need later, power AI features (chat and voice conversations are processed by Alibaba Cloud's DashScope service), send the notifications you ask for, and keep the service secure and reliable. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Sharing & disclosure
Your live location and session status are visible to the protectors you designate, and to anyone you give a share link — links expire and can be revoked at any time. Polaris uses one logical identity tenant so your account and sign-in identifiers can be recognized at both the China and Global entry points; location, evidence, protection sessions, and other safety data remain in the regional data plane where they were created. Service providers that process data on our behalf include Alibaba Cloud (hosting, storage, AI, and website bot protection), Tencent Cloud (SMS and content moderation), Twilio (international SMS), Resend (email), and the Apple, Google, or WeChat sign-in provider you choose. Website security-verification signals are processed by Alibaba Cloud CAPTCHA in the Chinese mainland. We disclose information when the law requires it.
Data security
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. During live protection, our servers process the coordinates needed to update the people you chose to protect you; location data is not end-to-end encrypted. SOS audio evidence is stored encrypted and automatically deleted from our servers after 30 days. Security-critical systems are designed to fail closed. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your rights & choices
From the authenticated website or app settings, you can submit an account-deletion request. In the app, you can also delete safety records, revoke share links, and remove protectors. An account-deletion request signs you out and blocks new sessions while deletion is processed across our regional systems; completion follows applicable legal timelines and may be paused for a lawful retention obligation. Additional rights may apply where you live, including under China's Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL). You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time.
